Twenty-seven years ago, climate scientists warned about the impacts of a supersized El Niño in 2027. Today, their warnings look set to become reality as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirms that El Niño is rapidly intensifying and will alter weather patterns worldwide. This phenomenon is expected to persist into the next decade. Earth continues to signal major changes, impacting multiple regions.

Volcanic and Tropical Storm Activity

Indonesia's Anak Krakatau volcano erupted with towering clouds of ash piercing 15 kilometers into the sky, prompting significant aviation warnings for nearby airports in Jakarta and Melbourne. Authorities have designated a three-kilometer exclusion zone around the volcano, which remains at a level three alert. Elsewhere a mind-bending 13-degree spike in temperatures hit Sydney, raising concerns about the immediate forecast, extreme fire danger and a total fire ban was imposed on the city.

Tropical Storms and Flooding

South of Hawaii in the Pacific, Hurricane Lowell is holding its ground as a category four storm. Though no landfall is anticipated, the hurricanes presents a grave threat to the islands with dangerous surf and coastal flooding. In China, the tropical storm Soudal has triggered catastrophic flooding, with a disastrous mudslide in Jiangxi. The mudslide resulted in one death and left 11 people missing. Storms are reshaping the landscape.
